Orthopedic

Urgent Care

Injuries are unplanned. When they occur, emergency room visits can be very expensive. On the other hand, the sooner you receive proper treatment of an injury, the faster and easier your recovery will be.

Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm at our Iowa City location. No referral or appointment is necessary to be treated by an orthopedic provider who specializes in muscle, bone, and joint care.

At SteindlerSTAT, we strive to be in-network with all major insurance carriers and Medicare programs. Specialty office insurance copays will apply, but you will not be charged any emergency room fees. We accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash.

When should you visit

SteindlerSTAT Urgent Orthopedic

walk-in clinic?

There are many orthopedic-related conditions that warrant a visit to our urgent care clinic, including, but not limited to:

Simple bone fractures

A fracture is caused when too much force is applied to a bone. In a simple fracture, the bone is only broken, but not at a severe angle or protruding from the skin.

Acute injury with pain or discomfort while moving

Injuries can occur to any part of the body. When they cause pain and limit movement, they can keep you from work, sports, and living your life.

Muscle, tendon, ligament, and joint sprains

A sprain occurs when tissue that connects bones and muscles becomes stretched or torn. Mild sprains can be treated at home, but severe sprains may need more involved care.

Broken collarbone, AC joint sprain, or separated shoulder

These injuries usually occur during sports or because of a fall and limit or prevent the use of the shoulder.

Torn bicep, tricep, or quadricep tendon

Tendon injuries are most often caused by repetitive motions or because an overwhelming load is suddenly placed on the tendon.

Finger, hand, wrist, and forearm injuries

Hand and wrist injuries can occur from a fall, an accident at work, or while playing a sport. If not properly treated, these injuries can impede everyday activities.

Hamstring injuries

Hamstring injuries commonly occur while playing sports. Mild injuries can be treated at home, but severe injuries may need more involved care.

Lower extremity injury with inability to put weight on it

Many injuries can result in the inability to place weight on one leg. Injuries to your foot, ankle, knee, hip, and even spine can impair leg function.

frequently asked questions.

Browse common questions about our walk-in orthopedic urgent care clinic. If you can’t find your answer below, give us a call at (319) 338-3606 to learn more.

We are a one-stop shop! This means our Steindler team can easily coordinate with all of the services offered at Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, including physical therapy, hand therapy, pain specialists, imaging (MRI and X-Ray), and orthopedic surgery.

It’s also possible to be seen by any of these services on the same day. This saves you time and gets you on the road to recovery after an acute injury as fast as possible.

Urgent orthopedic walk-in care is available at our Iowa City location Monday through Friday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

We offer musculoskeletal expertise for sudden (acute) and sports-related injuries in athletes and patients of all ages.

When visiting the emergency room or urgent care for an orthopedic injury, patients will often be given an x-ray and instructions to follow up with a specialist. Eliminating this additional visit saves time, is more cost-efficient, and accelerates the recovery process for the patient. We also offer significantly shorter waiting times than an emergency room, and your visit can cost up to 80% less than an ER visit.

Because the walk-in injury clinic at SteindlerSTAT offers services that match our full-time clinic, you have the opportunity to return to the same team of dedicated providers for follow-up care after your walk-in visit. Through Steindler and SteindlerSTAT we offer:

  • Timely care of your injury including x-ray, casting, bracing, and crutches if needed
  • Highly trained orthopedic and sports medicine specialists on staff
  • Shorter wait times than in emergency rooms
  • Services are considered in-office and are usually less expensive than an emergency room

No appointment is necessary for SteindlerSTAT. Simply walk in and let the reception staff know you are there for a SteindlerSTAT appointment.

For expedited service, please feel free to call (319) 338-3606 and let us know you are planning on coming in for an urgent care visit. Patients will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

We’ll always try to get you care as soon as possible. Please know that your wait time will depend on how busy the clinic is, and what conditions are being treated.

We bill orthopedic urgent care visits as a specialty office visit, as opposed to an urgent care visit. Your co-pay will reflect this visit type as well. We accept most major insurance plans.

It’s a good idea to call your insurer if you have questions about your coverage, how much you’ll pay, or if your insurance requires a referral for an orthopedic office visit.

We accept the same insurance plans for our urgent care services that Steindler Orthopedic Clinic normally accepts — this includes most commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage plans. If you have a question about your insurance coverage, please contact us prior to visiting the office.

Make sure you bring your current insurance card with you to your visit! Pre-payment of services will be required for patients without insurance or patients covered by insurance plans in which the office does not participate.

Your visit will be billed exactly as a regularly scheduled office visit at our facility. Cost varies depending on services rendered, but office visit fees will be significantly less than those you would be charged at an emergency room. Your regular specialty office visit copay will be due at the time of your visit.

Consider visiting SteindlerSTAT if you experience an accident, sudden injury, or other acute pain. Sprains and strains, closed fractures, dislocations, minor lacerations, and sudden-onset back or neck pain are all examples of injuries we may be able to treat at SteindlerSTAT.

If you have an ongoing condition or have been consistently treated by one of our providers, you should contact our office to schedule a regular appointment.

The SteindlerSTAT team consists of physicians and physician assistants.
